If you’re a runner and you’re not doing real strength training, you’re missing out on durability, speed, and long-term health.
Most runners don’t do real strength work. Some just don’t know how and some don’t think it matters, but I think it’s one of the most common and costly mistakes in the sport.
Here’s why it matters:
Every stride, you absorb force. A ton of it. Thousands of times every run. Strength is what lets your tendons and muscles absorb that force without breaking down. A strong tendon has a bigger buffer between what a run demands and what it can handle, and that buffer is what durability actually is.
Skip strength and the buffer stays thin, so every jump in mileage just brings you closer to your breaking point.
Strength doesn’t just protect you, it also makes you faster, because speed is just force in motion.
If you want to run fast, you have to be able to put more force into the ground.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take much. 1-2 focused sessions per week. Real load. Dosed so it doesn’t detract from your running.
I’m teaching exactly how I build this strength work for runners in a free workshop on August 19th.
